It's like the kid who relentlessly picks on his little sister, then beats the snot out of the first person outside the family who picks on her. Head south of the 49th and you'll meet wonderful people, but something just ain't hooked up right: manners? volume? arrogance? I'm not on an anti-US crusade, but I would glom onto other Canadians abroad like a fat kid on a Smartie. Even if they were Francophone (kidding). The closest I've ever come to hearing someone actually define what it is to be Canadian, was when I saw Rick Mercer's one-man show. He really gets it. How 'bout you?
